Ernesto Viveiros de Castro

The Basics:

I’m a National Park manager in Brazil working with tourism and conservation for almost 20 years and a Ph.D. graduate in Interdisciplinary Ecology within the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Florida.

What I did in the REC Lab

In the REC Lab, I researched the role played by long-distance trails on nature conservation, using social, economic, and ecological approaches. I explored the sense of place among hikers, gateway communities, and landscape connectivity along the trails that form the US Triple Crown of Hiking. My interest comes from my engagement in the Atlantic Forest Trail, the first Brazilian mega trail, and I hope to implement the knowledge from my research into its management handling.
